The Seattle Seahawks won their first Super Bowl in franchise history in 2013. This year’s team is already drawing comparisons to the championship team of three years ago.

“It feels like the (Super Bowl) 48 year,” safety Kam Chancellor said after practice on Monday. “It feels like everybody is bringing that intensity, everybody is out to prove something. They may be or may not be, but it just feels that way. The brotherhood is getting even tighter. Guys are just out here having fun and not thinking about a lot.”

After a crushing playoff loss to the Atlanta Falcons in the 2012 postseason, the Seahawks supplemented their roster with key free agent additions and productive young players to return to the Super Bowl for the first time under head coach Pete Carroll and earn their first Lombardi Trophy.
After a playoff loss at Carolina in January, Carroll feels the 2016 roster has a similar feeling to the 2013 season as well.

“I’m anxious to see how the thing rolls out,” Carroll said at the end of mini-camp last month. “There’s a lot of competition all over the field. I could go across the board with it, really. I think it’s going to be one of our most competitive camps. This is a chance for us to have a roster that reminds us of a couple years back and hopefully it’ll play out that way.”

As training camp gets rolling for the Seahawks, that optimism hasn’t subsided for Carroll.

“I haven’t been more excited in the approach to this camp than I can ever remember,” Carroll said Saturday. “Where we have come from, what we have done, the guys we are working with, the coaches, the continuity, all those types of things. Really inspired by the guys that have been around here and the way they have handled the offseason and approached it. They got me all jacked up so I got to be a little careful, I might get a little out of control here.”
