More than any other player, Scott Norwood is a symbol of the Bills’ failure to win a Super Bowl. So many Bills fans may just want to forget all about Norwood.
But if anyone wants a pricey reminder of Norwood’s place in Bills history, the kicker’s two AFC Championship rings are for sale. Norwood, who missed what would have been a game-winning field goal in the first of the Bills’ four consecutive Super Bowl losses, was on the Bills’ first two AFC Championship teams, and both of those rings are being auctioned.
Dan Imler of SCP Auctions told ESPN that the 1990 ring, symbolizing the first of the Bills’ four AFC Championship teams and the year that Norwood missed the game-winning field goal in the Super Bowl, is expected to sell for at least $15,000.
That number seems low: An AFC Championship ring sold by Matt Estrella, the former Patriots videographer who was busted in the Spygate case, just sold for $16,940. Norwood is a much more significant figure in Bills history than Estrella is in Patriots history, and some collector, especially a Bills fan, will likely pay a whole lot of money for this ring -- even if it serves as a painful reminder.
