After being activated off the physically unable to perform list on Friday, wide receiver Santonio Holmes practiced with the New York Jets Monday for the first time since suffering a Lisfranc injury last September.
According to Ian Begley of ESPNNewYork.com, Holmes looked “smooth cutting on the field” though he wasn’t running at full speed. Holmes also went through pregame warmups with the Jets prior to their preseason game against the New York Giants but Monday was his first chance to take part since being activated.
Holmes has been somewhat tentative about his status and whether he’ll be ready for the Jets’ season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, returning to practice is a good step toward being able to return to action sooner than later.
Holmes caught 20 passes for 272 yards and a touchdown in just four games last season for the Jets.
