The Saints re-signed safety Jamarca Sanford in March, but they’ll be looking elsewhere for depth in the secondary once training camp opens next month.

Sanford did not practice during the team’s minicamp last week and the Saints have removed him from the 90-man roster by placing him on injured reserve. The nature of Sanford’s injury hasn’t been disclosed.

Sanford joined the Saints in 2014 after opening the year with the Redskins and played six games for them before appearing in all 16 games last season. He had 14 tackles and an interception in 2015 and has played 95 games in the NFL since entering the league as a Vikings seventh-round pick in 2009.

The Saints signed defensive tackle Lawerence Virgil to fill the open roster spot. Virgil played one game for the Saints in 2014 and spent last season on their injured reserve.
