Yesterday Jets coach Rex Ryan and quarterback Geno Smith said practice was sluggish. Today the Jets are feeling good.
“Well I’m in a much better mood today because the energy was up today, no question about it,” Ryan said at the beginning of his press conference today. “Guys had a great practice. It wasn’t perfect. We have a couple guys, especially some of our new players, they’ve got a lot on their plate still. Okay, some of them never lined up. We’re still having some issues there. But we’re working at it. We’ll get it down. But the energy was good. I thought it was a good practice.”
The Jets are the NFL’s biggest underdogs this week against the Broncos, but Ryan is feeling good about the look of his team.
Whether Ryan still feels good about the look of his team in 72 hours remains to be seen. The Jets will have to pull off a big upset to avoid a 1-5 start, which would be followed by a quick turnaround and a trip to New England for a Thursday night game in Week Seven. The Jets may be just a week away from 1-6, at which point the question wouldn’t be about how well Ryan’s team is practicing. The question would be about how much longer the Jets can remain Ryan’s team.
