Rex Ryan said last month that he would be interested in speaking to the Jets about a return to the franchise and it appears that the team is open to having such a conversation.
Ryan was a guest on ESPN New York radio on Monday morning and he told host Jake Asman that he expects to speak with the Jets after the season comes to an end. The Jets have begun speaking to candidates for their General Manager vacancy, but they have not announced any head coaching interviews at this point.
Ryan coached the Jets from 2009-2014 and took the team to the AFC Championship Game after each of his first two seasons. The 2010 playoff appearance was the last one for the franchise and Ryan’s tenure eventually soured as he wound up 46-50 in the regular season before being let go.
That coaching tenure coincided with Mike Tannenbaum’s run as the Jets’ G.M. and Tannenbaum is involved in the team’s search process, so there’s a throwback vibe beyond Ryan’s name being thrown into the mix.
