Think an 8-8 record would get Rex Ryan to stop talking about winning a Super Bowl? Think again.
At a function on Wednesday night, Ryan displayed the Super Bowl ring he earned as an assistant with the Ravens and said he expects to earn another as head coach of the Jets, and to do it soon.
“I’m the only one [in the Ryan family of coaches] with only one Super Bowl ring,” Ryan said, via the New York Daily News. “But I’m planning on getting another one, and I’m planning on getting it quickly.”
Ryan refused to talk about rumors that the Jets could make a play for Peyton Manning, noting that he’d risk an NFL fine if he did, but he praised quarterback Mark Sanchez as having a bright future with the team. And he said that the disappointing ending to 2011 doesn’t diminish his bold ambitions with the Jets.
“We got some scars this year from this,” Ryan said. “Anybody who doesn’t have scars is either lying to you or never dared. One thing about us: We dare. We put it out there — I put it out there — that we want to be great.”
