There’s little doubt that new Bills coach Rex Ryan will have a good defense this year. The question is whether he can get anything done on offense. So Ryan’s hirings on that side of the ball will be particularly important.

Now Ryan has added a couple more veteran coaches to go with offensive coordinator Greg Roman: Aaron Kromer and David Lee.

Kromer will become the Bills’ offensive line coach after spending the last two seasons as the offensive coordinator of the Bears. Kromer’s tenure in Chicago was most notable for his admission that he had been the source of anonymous quotes criticizing Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. Kromer has previously been an offensive line assistant on the Raiders, Buccaneers and Saints.

Lee will become the Bills’ quarterbacks coach, a job he also had in Buffalo in 2012. He spent the last two seasons coaching the quarterbacks under Ryan with the Jets. The Jets’ quarterbacks didn’t play particularly well the last two years, but apparently Ryan thinks Lee can get more out of EJ Manuel, or whatever other quarterback the Jets bring in. The quarterback position is by far the Bills’ biggest question mark, which means Lee has a big job ahead of him.
