It’s been a few days since we’ve checked in on free agent fullback Vonta Leach, so it’s a good time to check in on one of the top names left on the free agent market.
There’s not much new to report, however. The Dolphins are still seen as the frontrunner to land Leach, but Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that there haven’t been any talks between Leach and the Dolphins this week.
Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland has been on vacation and talks are expected to resume once he’s back in the office next week. Salguero also reports that Leach is looking for a two or three-year deal from the team, because he wants to be part of the team’s future “which he sees as bright.”
Presumably, the Dolphins are looking to sign Leach to a one-year deal and, since Leach remains unsigned, we can also surmise that none of the other teams who have been linked to him have decided to offer multiple years. Leach doesn’t have much to lose by waiting to see if anyone does decide to go the extra mile in their offer since he can’t work with his new team until camp, so it may just be a waiting game to see if anyone blinks before Leach winds up taking a one-year deal.
