It looks like Bengals linebacker Dontay Moch is going to get a little extra time to think about how to fulfill Mike Zimmer’s wishes.

The Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer said last week that Moch needs to “get better” if he’s going to get on the field. Whatever improvements Moch makes to his game will have to wait to be unveiled until the fifth week of the season. According to both Aaron Wilson of Scout.com and Adam Caplan of Sirius XM Radio, the league has informed all of the league’s teams that Moch is suspended for the first four games of the NFL season.

Initial reports of Moch’s suspension surfaced last month, with the caveat that the appeal process had not been completed. The NFL’s decision to inform teams means that process has come to an end. Wednesday’s reports do not cite a specific reason for the suspension, although the previous reports indicated that it was for using a banned substance.

Moch was a third-round pick last year, but he didn’t play because of a broken foot. With the first four games off his board, Moch will have to give the Bengals a reason to keep him alive during training camp if he wants to hold onto his roster spot.
