Report: Steelers are expected to give up a home game to play in Ireland in 2025

The Steelers are expecting to give up a home game to play in Ireland in 2025, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. It will be the Steelers’ first international game in 12 years.

The Steelers played the Vikings in London in 2013.

Pittsburgh plays nine home games next season, hosting the division opponents, the Bills, Dolphins, Packers and Vikings as well as the corresponding team in the division standings from the AFC South and NFC West. The NFL already announced the Bears, Jaguars, Vikings and Panthers will play international games in 2025.

The opponent and date would not be announced until the 2025 NFL schedule is released in the spring, but Dulac said the league could announce the Steelers as a host in the next couple of weeks.

The Steelers always were expected to be the host team for the first regular-season game in Dublin.

They have a global licensing agreement with Ireland, and the Dan Rooney, the team’s late owner/chairman, served as the U.S. Ambassador to Ireland from 2009-12.
