Free agent linebacker Shaq Barrett will join the Buccaneers’ 53-player Saturday, pending a physical, according to multiple reports. Initial reports indicated Barrett was signing to the practice squad, which would have given him the flexibility to sign with another team’s active roster.
The Dolphins cut Barrett from the reserved/retired list this week, and he cleared waivers Friday. That made him a free agent and eligible to play this season.
Barrett signed with the Dolphins as a free agent this offseason, but he retired over the summer and never appeared in a game with the team.
He spent the previous five seasons in Tampa, totaling 249 tackles, 45 sacks, three interceptions, 90 quarterback hits, 15 forced fumbles and 11 passes defensed. Barrett earned three Pro Bowls and a Super Bowl ring with the Bucs.
