Ray Anderson, the NFL executive vice president of football operations, announced in December that he was planning on leaving the league office after eight years in the position.

Anderson is now apparently headed to the desert for the next step in his career.

According to Chris Karpman of ASUDevils.com, Arizona State University will name Anderson as their new vice president of athletics on Thursday.

“I have been involved in many different aspects of the NFL — as an agent, club executive, and league executive,” Anderson said at the time of the announcement. “I have always enjoyed new challenges and the time is right for me to evolve into the next phase of my career. I appreciate the opportunity Commissioner Goodell gave me and the support I have enjoyed from a great staff.”

Anderson will replace Steve Patterson as Arizona State’s athletic director. Patterson left Arizona State in November to take the same position at the University of Texas.

Anderson is familiar with the Pac-12 conference as he played football and baseball at Stanford University.
