A published report Monday says an independent neurologist and Patriots medical personnel assessed wide receiver Julian Edelman for a concussion in Super Bowl XLIX and declared him fit to continue playing.
According to Howard Ulman of the Associated Press, Edelman went through concussion testing after taking a hit to the head from Seahawks strong safety Kam Chancellor on a pivotal 21-yard third-down catch in the fourth quarter.
Six plays later, the Patriots scored a touchdown, narrowing the Seahawks’ lead to 24-21. After that, Edelman was tested, per the AP. He received clearance, and he was back on the field as the Patriots put together the eventual game-winning drive — a drive ending with Edelman catching the go-ahead TD pass in New England’s 28-24 triumph.
Edelman led all receivers in catches (nine) and yards (109) in Super Bowl XLIX. One-third of his catches came after the collision with Chancellor.
