Report: Jets, Darrelle Revis have discussed possible reunion

darrelle-revis

At this time last year, we were wondering when the Jets would pull the trigger on a trade of cornerback Darrelle Revis.

Now we’re waiting to see where Revis will land after the Buccaneers, who acquired him from the Jets for a pair of draft picks, released him on Wednesday. The Browns and Patriots have both been mentioned as possible landing spots, but there may also be a chance of Revis Island returning to its original waters.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets have spoken to members of Revis’ camp about getting back together in 2014. There’s no word on the likelihood of such a reunion, which seemed impossible as Revis’ tenure with the Jets came to an acrimonious end after several months of public sniping between the player and team, but the Jets could certainly use a cornerback of Revis’ skills after cutting Antonio Cromartie.

The Jets have been quiet since dropping Cromartie and wide receiver Santonio Holmes, a pair of moves that left them with ample cap space. They visited with wide receiver Eric Decker and tackle Breno Giacomini on Wednesday, but neither player has signed so there would likely be enough money to make a run at their former star.

The Jets’ nemesis in New England may stand in the way of the band getting back together, though. Mehta quotes one member of the cornerback’s camp as saying “it’s going to happen” in reference to Revis returning to the AFC East with a different team.

And so, for the second straight offseason, we wait to see what uniform Revis will be wearing when the season gets underway.
