Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane left last Thursday’s win over the Packers with a groin injury that coach Pete Carroll said would keep him out of the lineup for a while.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that a while will be at least eight weeks. Schefter reports that Lane will go on injured reserve with the designation to return, which means he’ll be out of practice for at least six weeks and ineligible to play in a game for eight.

It’s a bad time for the Seahawks to go down a cornerback because Tharold Simon is recovering from a knee procedure that kept him out of the opening game. That leaves Richard Sherman, Byron Maxwell and Marcus Burley on the depth chart, which would suggest that a cornerback will be joining the team in a corresponding move.

Josh Aubrey is on the practice squad and the agent for undrafted rookie Keith Lewis tweeted that his client is working out for the Seahawks. Lewis spent training camp with the Buccaneers, but didn’t make the 53-man roster.
