The report that Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis was left home for Sunday’s game after getting into a scrap with receiver Brandon Marshall caused many to wonder why it was Davis and not Marshall who was left behind.
The latest from Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald sheds some light on the situation.
Per Salguero, the Dolphins “believe Davis was drunk the night before the practice to which he was late.” Salguero also reports that, when Davis showed up, “Davis had the smell of alcohol and was suffering from an apparent hangover.”
Jay Glazer of FOX reported earlier today that, when Marshall and Davis argued at practice, Marshall spiked a football off the head of Davis.
"[O]ne of the reasons why we’re standing here with a W is because the guys in our locker room, we hold each other accountable,” Marshall said after the unexpected blowout of the Chiefs. “Vontae is a special player. He’s one of the best players on our team. We look forward to getting Vontae back hopefully next week. We hold each other accountable and that’s why we’re a special group. Record doesn’t show it but hopefully next week we can put another win back to back.”
And so even more stunning that the fact that the Dolphins won today is that Marshall suddenly comes off as the voice of reason.
