The Chiefs plan to release veteran safety Jeron Johnson, NFL Network reported Friday.

Johnson signed with the Chiefs in April but was listed third on the team’s unofficial depth chart, and the return of Eric Berry made Johnson expendable.

Johnson, 28, is a veteran of 60 NFL games. He played four seasons with the Seahawks before spending last season with the Redskins, with whom he played in 14 games and made two starts.
