The Buccaneers have added one of the top veteran placekickers available.
And he wasn’t available long.
The Bucs have reached a deal with ex-Bills kicker Rian Lindell, Alex Marvez of FoxSports.com reported Tuesday night. Buffalo released the 36-year-old Lindell just one day ago, electing to go with rookie Dustin Hopkins.
The Buccaneers have had to scramble at kicker since Connor Barth suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon injury in July. The club signed former Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes to compete for the job, but he’s dealing with a toe injury. If Tynes remains unavailable, Lindell and Derek Dimke will vie to handle the Bucs’ extra points and field goals.
Lindell connected on 21-of-24 field goals for Buffalo in 2012. Overall, he’s hit 283-of-348 field goals (81.3 percent) in regular-season play, converting 195-of-210 attempts (92.9 percent) inside of 40 yards.
