It’s been nearly 20 years since Baltimore stole the Browns from Cleveland. From now until pretty much the end of time, Cleveland will relish any chance to exact a measure of revenge.
The Browns got one nine days ago, when they traded up with San Francisco to the 94th overall pick in the draft to snag Towson running back Terrance West. Via Cleveland.com, West said Saturday that the Ravens were ready to take him five spots later in round three.
“They texted my agent and told him they were going to take me,” West said. “The Browns came up before them and I’m here now. It’s all about the Browns, man.”
A native of the Baltimore area, West had been a Ravens fan. But he has quickly changed allegiances.
“It didn’t really matter,” West said of Cleveland’s coup. “I’m looking forward to [playing the Ravens twice a season]. Can’t wait [but] I’m going to look at every game as the same. . . . We have a goal and that’s to win a championship.”
The Ravens have achieved that goal twice since the Browns moved to Baltimore and changed their name.
Baltimore filled its need at running back a round later, taking Coastal Carolina’s Lorenzo Taliaferro with pick 138. The addition of Taliaferro, the desire for West, the arrival of Justin Forsett, and the presence of Bernard Pierce should invite speculation that Ray Rice’s days could be numbered in the town that bogarted the Browns.
