The Ravens are giving nose tackle Ma’ake Kemoeatu a shot at resuming his NFL career.
The team announced that they have signed Kemoeatu, who broke into the NFL with the team as an undrafted free agent in 2002. He spent four years with the team before joining the Panthers as a free agent. His Carolina stint ended after an Achilles injury wiped out his 2009 season and he spent a year with the Redskins before missing all of last season after Washington cut him.
Kemoeatu was a starter in all three of his stops and his big body made him an effective run-stopper on the interior. With Brandon McKinney gone to Indianapolis, the Ravens have a need for such a player on their defensive line.
Kemoeatu has dealt with a serious shoulder injury in addition to the Achilles problem, so he’s far from a safe bet to make the Ravens this season. If he’s healthy, though, he could be a useful piece behind Haloti Ngata.
