Wide receiver Wes Welker wanted back into the NFL and it looks like his wish has been granted.
Rams coach Jeff Fisher announced that the deal was done during his Monday press conference. Welker had worked out for the Rams earlier in the day along with other veteran receivers.
The Rams are in need of help at receiver with Stedman Bailey headed for a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
Welker has been out of the league since playing out his contract with the Broncos last year and told Rapoport recently that he was frustrated watching other receivers in the league because “I should be playing.” He’ll now have his chance to show that the league was wrong to pass him over during the offseason and that he can get through the rest of the season without adding to a concussion history that likely played a big role in why teams opted to go with other options this season.
Welker had 49 catches for 464 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games with Denver last season and he has 890 catches for 9,822 and 50 touchdowns over the course of a career that started with the Chargers in 2004.
