Wide receiver Stedman Bailey has been working out and talking to doctors this offseason in hopes of resuming the football career that was halted when he was shot in the head last November, but the Rams don’t appear to believe that comeback is a possibility.
The team announced on Tuesday that they have waived Bailey with a non-football injury designation. The Rams and Bailey, who has been attending OTAs without doing on-field work, may not be done working together, however.
Steve Wyche of NFL Media reports that Bailey is expected to move into a non-football job with the Rams if he clears waivers. In the release announcing the move, the team said coach Jeff Fisher is “likely” to address Bailey’s situation when he speaks to the media on Wednesday.
Bailey was a third-round pick in 2013 and had 59 catches for 843 yards and two touchdowns in 38 games for the team.
Along with the Bailey move, the Rams also announced several other transactions. They formalized the additions of defensive tackle Cam Thomas and quarterback Dylan Thompson while also announcing that they’ve signed former Ravens cornerback Terrence McGee and rookie tight end Benson Browne. Wide receiver Kain Colter, linebacker Zack Hodges and defensive lineman Doug Worthington were all dropped from the roster.
