No player in NFL history has ever thrown as many touchdown passes in the first three games of a season as Peyton Manning has thrown this year.
Manning threw his third touchdown pass of the night in the second quarter against the Raiders, giving him 12 for the season. That’s the most touchdowns any quarterback has ever thrown for in the first three games of the season. The previous record of 11 touchdown passes in the first three weeks was set by Tom Brady, who had 11 touchdown passes in the first three games of the 2011 season.
The Broncos are having an easy time against the Raiders tonight, and as a result Manning might not need to throw many passes in the second half. But Manning looks like he’s just toying with the Oakland secondary, and the rout is on in Denver.
Manning probably won’t keep averaging better than a touchdown pass per quarter all year long, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him threaten Brady’s record of 50 touchdown passes in a season.
