Patriots will clinch first overall pick in 2025 NFL draft if they lose on Sunday

The Patriots are closing in on the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

New England is first in the current draft order, and with a loss to Buffalo on Sunday, the Patriots will have the first pick.

If the Patriots win or tie against the Bills on Sunday, three other teams are in contention for the first overall pick: the Titans, Browns and Giants.

If the Patriots win on Sunday and the Titans lose, the Titans get the first pick.

If the Patriots and Titans both win on Sunday and the Browns lose on Saturday, the Browns get the first pick.

If the Patriots, Titans and Browns all win and the Giants lose, the Giants get the first overall pick.

Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders is the betting favorite to go first overall, but after the Patriots got a promising rookie season from Drake Maye, it’s safe to say they won’t be drafting a quarterback. The Patriots could take a non-quarterback like Sanders’ teammate wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter, or they could trade down and acquire additional picks to build around Maye.
