The Patriots appeared to suffer another blow to their passing game on Sunday.

Tom Curran of CSNNE.com reports that receiver Julian Edelman left the stadium on crutches, wearing a protective boot on his foot. There’s been no official word from the team about the severity of Edelman’s injury.

Losing Edelman while tight end Rob Gronkowski is still out would hurt, as it would deprive Tom Brady of two of his favorite targets, although the Patriots’ passing game generally functions as a well-oiled machine no matter who’s out there. Edelman is also the Patriots’ primary punt returner and is having a good season, averaging 15.5 yards a return, and he plays on the Patriots’ kick coverage units as well.

Edelman had one catch for 13 yards and two punt returns for 25 yards before leaving Sunday’s game.
