Last year, Tony Pike was the “other” Panthers rookie quarterback behind Jimmy Clausen.

This year, he’s out of a job. The Panthers waived/injured Pike on Tuesday. They are expected to reach an injury settlement with him.

The team also placed tight Gary Barnidge, offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz, wide receiver David Gettis, and offensive lineman Zack Williams on injured reserve and let go of Duke Robinson in an injury-related move.

Schwartz is the most surprising and painful move for the team, with Ron Rivera calling it “a tough one.” We’ve watched the Panthers offensive line struggle badly in the preseason.

Gettis was expected to start at wideout, but we knew he was out of the season after he tore his ACL.
