The Panthers cut a pair of defensive linemen on Thursday and continued whittling down their roster ahead of free agency by dropping someone from the opposite side of the ball as well.
The team announced that they have released tackle Nate Chandler. Chandler was set to make $1.45 million in salary during the 2016 season and the Panthers will reclaim $1.3 million in cap space as a result of his departure.
Chandler missed the entire 2015 season with a knee injury. He started 11 games at right tackle in 2014 and played a variety of positions up front the previous season, but often looked overmatched during his time on the field.
Mike Remmers took over at the spot in 2015 and generally fared better as the Panthers went 15-1 in the regular season and advanced to the Super Bowl. He didn’t do as well in the Super Bowl itself, which may lead Carolina to look at other options and/or open up competition this offseason.
