The Packers waived rookie quarterback Matt Brown on Tuesday, the NFL disclosed in its official transactions.
An undrafted free agent from Illinois State, Brown was waived with a “non-football injury” designation. With Brown no longer on the roster, Graham Harrell and B.J. Coleman are now Green Bay’s only backups to Aaron Rodgers.
Harrell, the former Texas Tech star, was Green Bay’s No. 2 quarterback in 2012, but Coleman, a second-year pro, will get a shot to win the job in camp, too. In a recent Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel story, Packers quarterbacks coach Ben McAdoo indicated the club will split reps between the two reserves in camp.
The 22-year-old Brown threw for a school-record 10,591 yards with 78 TDs from 2009 through 2012 with the Redbirds.
The Packers’ first training-camp practice is Friday morning.
