Johnathan Franklin’s career in Green Bay has officially reached an end. The club announced the release of the injured second-year tailback on Friday.
A fourth-round selection of the Packers in 2013, Franklin played in 11 games as a reserve for Green Bay in 2013. He suffered a neck injury in the Packers’ November 24 tie with Minnesota.
On Thursday, Franklin announced he would not be playing in 2014 because of the neck injury, and he indicated he might not play thereafter.
Franklin will be subject to waivers, though it’s unlikely he will be claimed. If he has been waived-injured, he could revert to the Packers’ injured reserve list, where he presumably could be released with an injury settlement.
