Tuesday brought word that the Packers fired running backs coach Sam Gash after two years on the staff and the Packers confirmed the move in a release on Tuesday evening.
They made another change to their offensive coaching staff as well. Tight ends coach Jerry Fontenot has been relieved of his duties with the team he’s worked for since 2006. Fontenot held a variety of roles on the staff before becoming the tight ends coach in 2012.
“It’s been a pleasure to work with Jerry for the past 10 seasons,” McCarthy said in a statement. “He has given a lot to this organization and has been a big part of our success. We wish Jerry, [his wife] Stephanie and their family all the best moving forward.”
Richard Rodgers had 58 catches for 510 yards and eight touchdowns during his second season with the team, which was a nice improvement over his rookie year despite less impressive results as a blocker. There wasn’t much else to note about the tight end play in 2015, but both moves appear to signal a greater dissatisfaction with the way the offense shaped up this year than the particulars of individual performances.
