Jets kicker Nick Folk isn’t worried about himself with the new extra point rule. But he is worried about his teammates.

Folk thinks that with extra point kicks moving from the 2-yard line to the 15-yard line, defenses will think they have a better chance at a block and will go harder on the play. As a result, Folk thinks the collisions in the middle of the line will be more intense, and injury risk is greater.

“The defense will rush a little bit harder; they have a little more incentive,” Folk told NJ.com. “The big thing, for me, is I just hope some of our starting offensive linemen don’t get hurt on that play.”

Folk has never missed an extra point in his eight-year career and doesn’t plan to start now.

“I think every kicker has to make every kick look the same, whether you’re trying to hit an extra point or a long field goal,” Folk said. “You just try to hit the light pole in the back of the uprights. It shouldn’t affect too much.”

It may turn out that the new extra point rule doesn’t affect kickers as much as it affects those who block for kickers.
