Last August, amid speculation that perceived #Deflategate instigator Mike Kensil had been removed from NFL Football Operations, the league said that Kensil’s status has not changed. At some point since then, it has.
Multiple sources tell PFT that Kensil has been transferred from the position of V.P. of football operations.
The NFL has confirmed the move, explaining that Kensil’s new title is “V.P. game operations-international.”
“We needed a senior executive to work exclusively in this priority area,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told PFT. “He’s been in Mexico City and China the last few weeks.”
Kensil, according to the league, specifically will be responsible for game day operations for contests played in other countries, along with ensuring that the stadiums on foreign soil are NFL-ready. Kensil will ensure that the venue, the locker rooms, the field surfaces, and the coaching communications systems will be ready. He also will meet with the teams that will be playing internationally in the months and weeks leading up to the game.
This likely ensures that the Patriots won’t be playing internationally during Kensil’s tenure in the job. The Patriots (and their fans) continue to believe that Kensil was directly responsible for the #Deflategate fiasco, pouncing on the complaints from the Colts prior to and during the January 2015 AFC title game and presuming cheating based on halftime PSI readings below 12.5 PSI -- without considering the potential application of the Ideal Gas Law.
