Bears receiver Earl Bennett was fined $5,000 for wearing orange shoes last year, then did it again and was fined $10,000, and he only stopped wearing orange shoes when the NFL instructed the officials to eject him if he violated the league’s uniform policy again.
Now Bennett is back at it.
Bennett wore orange shoes on Monday night against the Lions, and he confirmed to ESPNChicago.com today that the league has informed him his paycheck will be docked for breaking the uniform rules. This time the fine is $10,500.
Bears receiver Brandon Marshall also wore orange shoes and also will presumably be fined. Bennett said it was Marshall who put him up to wearing the orange shoes on Monday.
“I wasn’t sure if I was going to wear them,” Bennett said. “Then Brandon Marshall was like, ‘let’s wear them.’ So I just put them on. I probably wouldn’t have worn them if he wouldn’t have agreed to it.”
Whatever the reasons, Bennett should expect another stern warning from the league that if he keeps breaking the uniform rules, he won’t be allowed to play at all.
