New Falcons head coach Dan Quinn gained a reputation as a fiery leader during his tenure as the Seahawks’ defensive coordinator, and now that he’s been formally introduced in Atlanta, he says he’s ready to do the same things with the Falcons that he did in Seattle.
“I’m so fired up to be here with you guys today,” Quinn said. “I can’t wait to build a similar championship environment right here in Atlanta.”
Quinn hit on many of the buzzwords we always hear from new coaches, saying that his teams will play “fast and physical” football. (We’re still waiting on a new head coach to announce that his team will play a “slow, finesse style” of football.)
“It starts with effort first, and that’s always the thing we’ll talk about,” Quinn said. “We want to be really aggressive in terms of the way we attack.”
Falcons owner Arthur Blank introduced Quinn by noting that the team was sure he’s the right man for the job -- so sure that the Falcons waited until after the Super Bowl so they could get their man.
“We were looking for a leader with a clear vision of success,” Blank said. “We felt so strongly that he was the best coach for us that we stayed patient throughout the playoffs and the Super Bowl.”
Now the Falcons have to hope that patience pays off.
