Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel piloted the team to the playoffs in his first two seasons on the job, but the hopes for three in a row are very dim with three games left on the schedule.
Coaches in that position often hear questions about their job security and McDaniel got one during his Wednesday press conference. McDaniel said he’s “comfortable with the realities within the profession that I’ve chosen” and said that he has “enough to worry about with the San Francisco 49ers” on deck to spend time fretting about his status.
“Ultimately, you know what it is when you sign up for it,” McDaniel said. “I’m not worried about it in the slightest. I think that would absolutely be selfish. If I’m worried about that, I’m definitely not worried about the things that I have to offer the players that are playing in a professional football game. The season hasn’t gone anybody necessarily wanted. How often do we say that in life in general? My job is not to predict and expect.”
McDaniel’s prospects for a return in 2025 are helped by the three-year contract extension he signed ahead of this season. That tied him to the team through the 2028 season and it would be unusual to see the team move in the other direction so soon after locking him up.
