Chargers owner Dean Spanos intends to do everything he can to get a stadium built in San Diego. Coach Mike McCoy agrees that the priority for the franchise is to stay put.
McCoy shared his views during Wednesday’s PFT Live on NBC Sports Radio, in response to the question of whether the team’s current geographic uncertainty will be an issue when attracting free agents.
It definitely should be an issue. At a minimum, free agents will want to know, when signing a multi-year deal, whether they should buy or rent in San Diego.
Based on comments from Spanos and McCoy, the answer is clear: Buy.
Whether that’s a last-ditch effort to finagle public money or to preemptively assuage guilt after leaving remains to be seen.
For everything McCoy had to say -- including how the team plans to get more out of running back Melvin Gordon, whether tight end Antonio Gates will return, and if a reconciliation is possible with safety Eric Weddle -- click the thing in the thing below.
