Falcons quarterback Michael Penix has been limited in practice all summer, but that is set to change this week.
Penix met with his doctors this week and head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters after Saturday’s preseason game that he received clearance for all football activities. Penix has been practicing throughout training camp after recovering from a torn ACL, but has not taken any snaps in 11-on-11 work while waiting for the green light.
The Falcons’ planned competition between Penix and Tua Tagovailoa for the starting quarterback job was on hold until Penix was cleared for team work, so it can now really get underway. The Falcons play their final preseason game in Miami next Friday and Tagovailoa is expected to play after sitting out Saturday’s game against the Colts.
Stefanski did not say if Penix will play in that game and that decision will be a point of interest around the team in the coming days.
