Safety Brandon Meriweather has become in recent weeks a player who is perceived to be in danger of losing his roster spot in New England. Despite the fact that he was playing in garbage time of the preseason finale, Meriweather remains optimistic.
He brushed off his presence on the field during time reserved to guys who soon will be former members of an NFL team. “Coaches want to see me play and the other guys play too,” Meriweather said after the game, via Tom Curran of CSNNE.com. “I wouldn’t say it’s because I’m going downhill or anything like that, it’s when Coach [Belichick] wanted to play me.”
Still, some in the Boston media think Meriweather could be in danger of getting cut.
“Why everybody feel like I’m in trouble?” Meriweather said. “Hey, maybe they know something we don’t. Maybe they know something that [Belichick] didn’t tell us. He usually comes and tell us if there’s something going on. He’s good with stuff like that so, you know, I’m just going to keep working hard and keep playing.”
Either way, we’ll all know Meriweather’s status on Saturday, after the dust settles on the dumping of 864 players throughout the league, as teams drop from 80 players to 53.
