Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch didn’t leave his bowl game on a high note, but he’ll soon be able to console himself with a professional contract.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Lynch will announce that he’s leaving school to declare for the 2016 NFL Draft, in which he’ll be one of the top quarterbacks chosen.

He’ll join recently declared Cal quarterback Jared Goff at the top of the discussion, and given the (relatively) cheap contracts rookies are getting now, both will likely be chosen high in the first round.

Of course, Lynch’s bowl tape won’t help him, as he was kind of a mess in the Tigers’ Birmingham Bowl loss to Auburn. He was 17-of-38 for 104 yards and an interception.

But the 6-foot-7 Lynch has the kind of size and athleticism and arm strength which gives teams reason to overlook one bad game.
