All three Bengals games have come down to the wire, but Cincinnati is licking their wounds after a second straight defeat in Week Three.
Buffalo comes to town Sunday and Bengals coach Marvin Lewis is feeling appropriately feisty.
“We’re early in the year,” Lewis said. “We’ve got a lot of season ahead of us. And you know, at the end of this week when we’re 2-2, there’s going to be probably the other third of the league is going to be in the same situation. So I think we have to understand that.”
Lewis also doesn’t like the revived questions about his rookie quarterback Andy Dalton’s ability to go deep.
“You guys sat in here and sang Andy’s praises a week ago, now we have limitations,” Lewis said. “No, I don’t think we have any [limitations]. I think we’ll continue to attack the corners. Andy missed a couple of shots [deep throws] yesterday that we’ve got to hit.”
Cedric Benson may be suspended for this week’s game, which won’t help matters. Lewis has to feel good at least about a defense ranked third in yards and sixth in points allowed through three weeks. Cincy’s rotating defensive line is among the better groups in the league.
Perhaps that’s why Lewis is so fired up about his young squad.
