Kam Chancellor continued his holdout from the Seahawks on Thursday, but his No. 31 jersey was seen on the practice field.
It was worn by running back Marshawn Lynch in a show of support for his teammate, who wants the Seahawks to push some of his 2017 money into the 2016 season. Chancellor thanked Lynch, who signed an extension with the team in March, for the gesture on Instagram.
Cornerback Richard Sherman addressed Chancellor’s absence verbally by saying that the players on the team haven’t wavered in their support as Chancellor draws closer to missing the first regular season game of the season.
“No, you just keep supporting,” Sherman said, via ESPN.com. “He’s still a friend; he’s still a teammate, and you support him. You understand that he’s sacrificed and he’s done what he had to do to get to this point, so you continue to support him. Obviously it’s a tough spot for him to be in, but that’s all you can do.”
The team posted pictures of Lynch to Twitter and Instagram, so they didn’t seem peeved by the running back’s gesture. Defensive coordinator Kris Richard said he’s spoken to Chancellor and that both sides are working toward a solution that Richard believes will make his defense whole.
“He wants to be here,” Richard said, via Curtis Crabtree of PFT. “We want him here. And right now, there will be a resolution and it will come down to it.”
For now, though, No. 31 is going to be empty on Sundays.
