Marshawn Lynch could have been a Saint

On Saturday night, Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch drove a golf cart through the New Orleans defense en route to a game-clinching, 67-yard touchdown run. As it turns out, Lynch possibly wouldn’t have been available to help beat the Saints, because he possibly would have been a member of the Saints.

Jay Glazer of FOX reports that the Saints had told the Bills that they were interested in trading for Lynch, a first-round pick in 2007. But the Bills didn’t shop Lynch, as Glazer had first reported back in October.

Glazer now reports that the Saints would have given the Bills a third-round pick, more than the Seahawks ultimately surrendered.

Even if for some reason the Bills didn’t want to trade Lynch to the Saints, the Bills should have at least shopped Lynch around. At a minimum, they could have gotten more out of the Seahawks.

So while the Saints lost last night’s game for plenty of reasons unrelated to the Bills’ bungling of an opportunity to get more compensation for Lynch, the reality is that Buffalo’s failure to maximize their leverage resulted in the Seahawks having a very potent weapon, who rediscovered his “beast mode” at a very critical juncture of the game.
