Lions lost linebacker Jimmy Rolder to season-ending hamstring injury vs. Vikings

Lions linebacker Jimmy Rolder will miss the rest of the season after suffering a hamstring injury on Sunday against the Vikings.

Rolder’s injury has been largely overlooked because it happened on the same play as the very scary injury suffered by linebacker Jack Campbell, who remains hospitalized. Rolder’s injury isn’t as serious but is a big one for the Lions, as Rolder is a rookie who had been playing an increasingly important role on Detroit’s defense. Rolder was the Lions’ leading tackler in their win over the Vikings.

“Jimmy Rolder is going to require surgery, or he could, this is a significant injury, he’ll be out for the season,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell said.

A fourth-round pick out of Michigan, Rolder has also been one of the Lions’ top special teams players this season. The Lions suffered several injuries on Sunday, including two different plays when two different defensive players were knocked out of the game. Dan Campbell said the Lions had to rally to finish the game strong without several key players.

“Everybody goes through it and it’s our time,” Campbell said. “We overcame a lot of adversity, so I was proud of that, too.”

Rolder will go on injured reserve. Campbell said the Lions’ other injured players are still being evaluated for this week.
