After former Bills tackle Jason Peters suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in the offseason, the Eagles signed former Bills tackle Demetress Bell to replace Peters on the left side of the line.
Now, King Dunlap will get an opportunity to win the job.
Dunlap (pictured) was elevated to the first team on Saturday, but coach Andy Reid downplayed the development. “Just a scheduled switch,” Reid said in comments distributed by the team. “Like I said, King’s been with us a while and he deserves that opportunity. Demetress has done a good job. He’s worked hard, so he’s doing fine. But I just want to make sure; I want to make sure everybody has their shot there.”
So what advice does Reid have for Bell? “Just continue to progress,” Reid said. “Just continue to progress and he’ll do that with reps. He’s going to get plenty of reps and everybody needs that. Right now, everybody needs that. We need to get better.”
Whether it’s Bell or Dunlap, the left tackle needs to get a lot better to replace Peters.
