The Vikings have not called quarterback Daniel Jones up from the practice squad for any games since he signed with the team, but head coach Kevin O’Connell said that the team will discuss signing him to the active roster this week.
If Jones finishes the year on the active roster, the Vikings could wind up with a compensatory pick based on a contract he signs with another team and O’Connell said at his Monday press conference that “we’re gonna have some dialogue about that as far as the timing of it.” O’Connell said that Jones has been “quietly behind the scenes putting in some phenomenal work” since coming to Minnesota and declined to say whether signing him would alter the depth chart at all.
“All stuff to be talked about,” O’Connell said. “As coaches, we have not really discussed that other than making sure we’ve got guys ready to roll while also Daniel being on his own kind of individual plan.”
Nick Mullens and Brett Rypien are currently the quarterbacks behind Sam Darnold on the 53-man roster in Minnesota.
