The Steelers signed a potential left tackle for 2016 when they agreed to a deal with Ryan Harris on Tuesday and the man who opened last season as their starter at the position has landed a contract as well.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Kelvin Beachum has signed with the Jaguars. The Jaguars reportedly wanted Beachum to sign before leaving a Monday visit, but Beachum, who was No. 34 on PFT‘s list of the top free agents, wanted to take time to evaluate his next step. By signing Harris, the Steelers may have made that easier for Beachum.
Beachum started 25 straight games for the Steelers dating back to the 2013 season, but saw the streak come to an end after six games in 2015 because of a torn ACL. If he’s healthy, he could compete with former second overall pick Luke Joeckel on the left side of the line. He also has experience at right tackle, so he could push Jermey Parnell on the other side as well.
With Harris and Beachum signed, Andre Smith and Russell Okung are the top unsigned tackles available in free agency.
