When the Jaguars open up camp next week, they’ll have all 90 players under contract.
The team announced Thursday that they have agreed to terms on a four-year contract with sixth-round pick Josh Evans. The safety is the last of the team’s eight draft picks to reach a deal with the team, leaving them with no contractual work to do before camp gets underway. Evans is expected to formally sign the agreement on Monday.
Evans was the second safety that the Jaguars added in April, joining second-round pick Jonathan Cyprien as new arrivals on the depth chart. Cyprien is a better bet to play right away on defense, but Evans hardly has insurmountable obstacles in his path to playing time in the secondary. Until that comes, he’ll make his living on special teams.
Evans went to the University of Florida where he played next to Ravens first-round pick Matt Elam, who also agreed to contract terms on Thursday. Evans started 24 games over the course of his career in Gainesville.
