The Seahawks defense did a good job of keeping the Jets offense under wraps in last Sunday’s victory and they got some help in that effort from punter Jon Ryan.

Ryan punted five times during the 27-17 win and dropped four of those kicks inside of the 20-yard-line to leave the Jets with a long way to go for much of the afternoon. His work was recognized by the league on Wednesday when he was named the NFC special teams player of the week.

It’s the second time that Ryan has been so honored. He joins Rick Tuten, who was a three-time winner, as Seahawks punters with multiple weekly conference accolades.

Ryan, who is in his ninth season with the Seahawks, is averaging a net of 39 yards per kick through the first four games this year.
