Falcons defensive end John Abraham didn’t shine much light on his Monday arrest for obstructing police and firefighters, but said the situation was a matter of “bad timing.”
“At this moment, I don’t want to talk about my side of the story,” Abraham told D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “Once we get everything verified and get everything going the same way, because we still have a legal situation that we need to get cleared up.
“Sometimes, it’s just bad timing. I’m not going to fault anybody at all. Sometimes things happen in life. Sometimes trying to do the right thing, [doesn’t] end up being the right thing.”

According to the police report, Abraham was “obviously intoxicated,” when he returned to his condo and a woman was threatening to jump from the building. It is not known if he knew the woman or was just going home.
The police report said Abraham was confronted by a firefighter who “repeatedly ordered him to leave the scene.” When more officers came and ordered him to leave, the report said Abraham “refused and insisted on continuing [farther] into the scene” at which point he was arrested.
Abraham was released on $7,500 bond on the misdemeanor charges.
In case you were wondering, the woman didn’t jump, and wasn’t injured.
Abraham’s biggest problem is one of perception, and, to use his words, bad timing. The Falcons are extremely sensitive to public perception and off-field issues since the Michael Vick days, and having his arrest coming the week after Michael Turner was brought up on DUI charges brings more attention.
